At Sandymoor, we aim to prepare our students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. In other words, creating a culture and mindset “where dreams are within reach.”
Careers education and guidance is an essential part of this process, so we ensure that students have access to a high-quality programme, as well as face-to-face guidance from an independent, professionally-qualified careers adviser.
Our taught careers programme is delivered through our weekly Personal Development lessons in years 7-11, through regular assemblies, within form tutor time and through linked events, including:
We work alongside Halton Careers Education Service to ensure our students get bespoke individual careers, advice and guidance interviews with our advisor. Our Year 10 students also complete a one-week work experience placement, usually in June.
We partner with Liverpool City Region Careers Hub to give our students access to advisers, universities, training providers, businesses and careers professionals to improve how we prepare our students for their next steps.
Quality in Careers Standard
We are proud to have retained the Quality in Careers Standard fully incorporating the Gatsby Benchmarks provided by the Licensed Awarding Body, Complete Careers Career Mark, using the Career Mark approach.
This is an excellent achievement and recognises the quality and breadth of our careers provision.
There are eight Gatsby Benchmarks which every school promotes as part of their careers, advice and guidance offer. We are proud to report that we satisfy 100% of the benchmarks. These are:
