Careers Information

Our Careers Leader is Mrs Rebecca Ruddock and our careers lead Governor is Mr C Davidson.

Our offer

We deliver an exciting careers programme through our weekly Personal Development lessons in years 7-11, through regular assemblies, within form tutor time and through linked events, such as:

  • Careers fair
  • Mock interviews
  • Visits to local colleges and apprenticeship providers

We work alongside Halton Careers Education Service to ensure our students get bespoke individual careers, advice and guidance interviews with our advisor(s).  Our Key Stage 4 students also complete a two-week work experience placement usually in June.

Quality in Careers Standard

Sandymoor Ormiston Academy retains the Quality in Careers Standard fully incorporating the Gatsby Benchmarks provided by the Licensed Awarding Body, Complete Careers Career Mark, using the Career Mark approach.

This is an excellent achievement and recognises the quality and breadth of our careers provision.

Gatsby benchmarks

There are eight Gatsby Benchmarks which every school promotes as part of their careers, advice and guidance offer. We are proud to report that we satisfy 100% of the benchmarks, these are:

  • Offering a stable careers programme
  • Learning from career and labour market information
  • Addressing the needs of each student
  • Linking curriculum learning to careers
  • Encounters with employers and employees
  • Experiences of workplaces
  • Encounters with further higher education
